What are Laser Acne Scars Treatments and Do I need them?

by Valerie Garner

Many people develop scars as a result of their acne problems. The extent and severity of these blemishes depends greatly on the type of acne they have. So it's not just about acne prevention but also about a quick and effective acne treatment.

The gentlest treatments for acne scars include scar removal creams, microdermabrasion, and dermabrasion. Scar removal creams and microdermabrasion creams are quite convenient because they can be used in the comfort of your own home. They are slow acting, but will show definite results if they are used consistently.

Dermabrasion treatments are performed in a doctor's office while microdermabrasion treatments can be performed in a spa. Dermabrasion requires the use of local anesthetic while microdermabrasion treatments are less aggressive and can be done without anesthesia.

Acne scars are usually caused by ineffective acne treatments, and most people don't know that. Consequently, the best acne treatment is a proactive acne treatment. The only problem is, not everyone sticks to a rigorous treatment routine.

For everyone who has a problem sticking to a strict routine, the laser therapy treatments outlined below can prove to be a great treatment for acne scars.

Laser Acne Treatment

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Sunken or atrophic scars can be treated with this type of laser therapy. Deep boxcar scars are difficult, however, not impossible to treat with this type of method. The laser removes the top layer of the skin and tightens the middle layer to make the skin smoother.

The two types of lasers used in these treatments are ablative and non-ablative. The type that your doctor chooses to use on your skin will depend on the type of scarring you have.

Ablative lasers usually produce lesions because they treat the epidermis, so you will have to take time off from work. You will also need to apply antibiotic dressings for a certain period after the treatment. This is why ablative laser is not the best treatment for facial acne scars.

You will begin seeing results two weeks after the initial treatment. Some people have to wait 18 months after treatment before they see any real results.

Non-ablative lasers, unlike ablative lasers, don't require any downtime because they treat the dermis of the skin. However, it is necessary to undergo several treatments. Both ablative and non-ablative lasers have been used to treat acne, however, this type of treatment is probably the best one for treating acne.

Fractional Laser Therapy

Fractional laser therapy works at both the epidermal and dermal level. This is a great way of treat acne scars because it allows the specialist to focus only on the damaged part of the skin. This promotes a shorter healing period and a more effective treatment.

If you decide to undergo fractional laser therapy you should know that after the initial treatment you may experience a slight burning sensation. This treatment may also leave a pinkish tone on your skin that will dissipate within a week along with slight swelling that will subside within a day or two.

Laser therapy has become a very popular method for treating acne scars and aging skin. Nevertheless, there are times when a gentle acne scar cream is better for facial acne treatment or smaller scars. Of course, the best solution is acne prevention. By using natural acne creams such as BIOSKINFORTE you can finally treat those stubborn acne scars and cysts, while helping prevent future acne scar formation.
